Rail News: Passenger Rail
The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) recently awarded Bombardier Transportation an $84 million, seven-year contract to provide commuter-rail vehicle maintenance services.
Bombardier will design and implement a life-cycle maintenance program for SFRTA’s fleet, including locomotives, self-propelled vehicles and Bombardier-built bi-level coaches. The company also will provide preventive and corrective maintenance services, complete scheduled vehicle and component overhauls, manage materials and create a maintenance management information system.
The contract includes an option for a three-year extension, which, if exercised, would increase the deal’s value to $122 million. SFRTA — which operates a 72-mile Miami-to-West Palm Beach, Fla., corridor — will transition its maintenance operation to Bombardier by July 1.
