Bi-State Development Agency took home the Rail Transit Achievement Award at the 10th Annual Rail Rodeo, held June 10 in conjunction with American Public Transportation Association's Association’s Commuter Rail/Rail Transit Conference in Baltimore.
Bi-State — which serves metropolitan St. Louis — earned fourth place in the "operator" and first in the "maintainer" competitions, giving the agency enough points to snare the overall prize, which recognizes operational safety and efficiency.
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority took first place in the operator competition, which is designed to measure a variety of professional skills, including train operation, and knowledge of safety regulations, train equipment, and track right-of-way rules and procedures. Toronto Transit Commission and Maryland Transit Administration (which serves Baltimore) took second and third, respectively.
MTA New York City Transit took second and Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority third in the maintainer’s competition, which judged maintainers on their ability to trouble-shoot maintenance problems.
