St. Louis Metro still could receive state funds to restore service cuts

After announcing last month that Missouri legislators planned to redirect funds previously proposed to help St. Louis Metro restore some eliminated service, the agency seems to be back on track to receive at least some additional funding.

The Missouri House recently passed a bill that includes $12 million in stabilization/stimulus funds for Metro to restore a portion of the transit service it cut on March 30. The bill now goes to the state Senate for consideration.

State leaders originally had introduced a bill that would allocate $20 million to Metro from the Federal Budget Stabilization Fund.

Metro implemented drastic service cuts, including a more than 30 percent reduction in light-rail service, to help make up a $50 million FY2010 budget deficit.
