St. Louis Metro to replace outdated bridge
advertisement
St. Louis Metro recently began replacing the 80-year-old Vandeventer Bridge, which features two tracks for MetroLink and one for freight trains.
Constructed in 1929, the bridge is “experiencing significant settling and deterioration,” and is supported by four piers that obstruct vehicular traffic, St. Louis Metro officials said in a prepared statement.
To be completed by spring 2010, the $5 million project calls for constructing a two-span, pre-cast structure on concrete abutments. The project will be funded by a federal grant and local matching dollars, and completed by design-build contractor Millstone-Bangert.
