The Bi-State Development Agency in St. Louis won the Rail Transit Team Achievement Award at the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) 20th annual International Rail Rodeo, which was held June 2 during the APTA Rail Conference in Dallas.

The award is given to the transportation system with the highest rail operator and maintainer team combined score. The winning team’s members were Robert Yawn, Christina Hicks, Chris Lynch, Kevin Moore and Matt Fisher.

Thirteen North American transportation systems competed for the honor, which recognizes workers’ efforts to maintain rail system safety and efficiency, APTA officials said in a prepared statement.

Placing first in the Operators Competition were Devon Brumfield and Antaeus Chandler of Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Bi-State Development Agency of St. Louis operators Yawn and Hicks placed second with the team of Lynch, Moore and Fisher. Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) maintainer team of Mike Seeley, Gary Candrell and Ted Christian placed third.

The Operators Competition measures professional skills including train operation, knowledge of safety regulations, train equipment, and track right-of-way rules and procedures.

In the Maintainers’ Competition, which judges workers’ ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems, the Regional Transportation District of Denver team took first place, Bi-State Development Agency placed second and BART team finished third.
