Trinity Metro yesterday announced TEXRail commuter-rail service now will start on Thursday. The new system originally was scheduled to launch Jan. 5.

Trinity Metro received word from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) that the entire 27-mile TEXRail route has been approved for passenger service, agency officials said in an emailed update. Trinity Metro was waiting for FRA clearance to begin operations.

On Jan. 4, agency workers discovered a signal issue that interrupted train operations.

"We determined the issue was caused by a hardware installation problem by our signal contractor," Trinity Metro officials said in the email. "We are testing each piece of hardware to make sure that all components are working properly before we begin passenger service."

TEXRail will operate between downtown Fort Worth and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, running through northeast Tarrant County, North Richland Hills and Grapevine, Texas.
