U.S. transit agencies are benefiting from the thousands of fans taking rail to see Taylor Swift in concert during her "Eras" tour that began in March.
Officials from transit authorities in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Pittsburgh reported high ridership levels on the weekends when Swift was performing, some of them reporting record ridership, CNN reported.
The Chicago Transit Authority provided 5.63 million rides the week of June 4-10, a pandemic-era record. Swift's three night performances June 2-4 at Soldier Field generated more than 43,000 additional rail and bus rides.
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority reported 140,000 people using its rail system to see Swift perform at Mercedes-Benz Stadium over three nights, more than three times the typical weekend ridership level.
Similarly, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority counted 27,000 fans entering the subway station near Lincoln Financial Field in the hour following the shows' ends. New Jersey Transit moved 80,000 people on Memorial Day weekend, when Swift performed at MetLife Stadium. And Pittsburgh Regional Transit transported 85,000 people throughout two days of sold-out performances at Acrisure Stadium.
