Toronto’s city council recently selected the retail space developer and construction manager for the $600 million Union Station revitalization project.

The city chose Osmington Inc. subsidiary Redcliff (Union Station) Inc. to develop 160,000 square feet of new retail space in the station, including a planned lower retail concourse. Osmington subsidiary Redcliff Realty Group will be responsible for retail leasing, management and operations.

The city also selected Vanbots, a division of Carillion Construction Inc., to serve as the construction manager for the revitalization project, which is scheduled for completion by 2015. In addition to the retail space, the project includes a new 126,000-square-foot upper level transportation concourse area for GO Transit passengers and a new northwest passage connecting Union Station to the underground PATH system.

The city also reached a sale agreement with Metrolinx under which the agency will purchase the future east and west concourses for GO Transit passengers, and a portion of Union Station's west wing to house its main offices.

Since acquiring Union Station in 2000, Toronto has aimed to promote the facility as a multi-modal transportation hub, preserve its heritage and revitalize the station.
