Toronto unveils '10-minute or better' transit service plan

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) on Monday announced a series of improvements to transit service in the city.

As part of the TTC's "10-Minute-Or-Better" service network, 52 streetcar and bus routes will run every 10 minutes or better to ensure frequent and reliable service across Toronto, TTC officials said in a press release.

The plan evolved from a report approved by TTC's board in August 2014. The board approved funding for the improvements as part of TTC's 2015 operating budget and the city council's commitment to improving transit service, officials said.

"Providing quality transit service that is reliable, punctual, frequent that allows Toronto residents to reasonably opt for the TTC when making their way around the city at all times of the day, is critical to our success as a city," said TTC Chair Josh Colle.

The city made an "unprecedented commitment of almost $100 million" to TTC earlier this year, Colle said, adding: "As chair, I am pleased to see us continue to make headway on improving public transit in Toronto."

The improvements include all four subway lines and 11 streetcar routes.
