British Columbia's TransLink system achieved $16.3 million in efficiencies in 2013, reducing costs while maintaining strong customer service ratings, officials announced after the agency's annual meeting on Wednesday.

"[Last year] was marked by the achievement of goals set for the region, for service, investment, finances and plans for the future," said TransLink Chairman Marcella Szel in a prepared statement. "In 2014, we’ll continue this work, as well as support the dialogue that is taking place to identify projects and funding options to meet the future transportation needs of this region."

Other 2013 achievements included:
• $248 million invested in infrastructure and transit fleet upgrades to keep the transit system in a state of good repair;
• customer satisfaction ratings of 7.6 out of 10;
• 10,000 customers participating in the Compass Card Beta test, and 80,000 Compass cards now in circulation; and
• transporting a total of 233.9 million passengers.

TransLink released its combined financial and sustainability annual report at its annual general meeting. The 2013 Annual Report, along with TransLink’s first Annual People Report, are available at translink.ca/corporatereports.
