TransLink is releasing the first full draft of Transport 2050, its transportation strategy for the next 30 years in metro Vancouver, British Columbia.
The draft includes more than 100 recommendations on ways to improve transportation over the next three decades.
Some key recommended actions include: quadrupling the rapid transit network by constructing about 190 miles of new SkyTrain, subway, light-rail or bus rapid transit lines; completing a traffic-separated bikeway network; and promoting electric and shared vehicles, such as bikes, scooters and cars.
TransLink has opened a third and final round of public engagement on Transport 2050 before the strategy becomes final. Based on input — which must be provided by Oct. 29 — the agency will update the strategy before sending to TransLink's board and Mayors’ Council for final approval in early 2022.
"Through the engagement process, we are asking the public to tell us if they support the overall strategy and provide suggestions for improvement," TransLink officials said in a news release.
Over the past two years, the agency has collected more than 36,000 surveys and more than 4,000 ideas from the public at more than 300 in-person and online events.
