The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) in California broke ground last week on the future Dos Rios Station on the light-rail Blue Line. The station will be located on North 12th Street between Richards Boulevard and Sunbeam Avenue. The station project is funded with state and federal dollars. The Dos Rios Station is part of SacRT’s larger efforts to enhance its light-rail network to support economic growth, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote equitable access to public transportation.

The Regional Transportation District-Denver (RTD) has named Angel Pena as the agency’s inaugural deputy CEO effective March 17. Pena will lead day-to-day operations and management of multiple RTD departments and divisions, RTD officials said in a press release. Pena previously held senior leadership roles at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the District Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. In the private sector, he was vice president, rail and transit leader for the Texas/Mountain Region at STV Inc.

The Chicago Plan Commission has adopted an equitable transit-oriented development (TOD) plan created by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The 95th Street Corridor plan calls for walkable and mixed-use development on a 2-mile stretch along 95th Street, where major transit investments have been completed and are planned. Those planned include the rehabilitation of the 95th Street/Chicago State University Metra Electric station. The CTA met with community organizations and stakeholders while creating the TOD plan, CTA officials said in a press release.
