Transportation group lobbies for VIA Rail reform

Public transportation advocacy group Transport 2000 Ontario is lobbying for improvements to Canada’s national passenger railroad. The group recently sent emails to all Ontario Parliament members requesting expanded VIA Rail Canada Inc. service and increased intermodal investment. They also strongly suggested that VIA Rail be named a crown corporation.
The group wants increased service to Kitchener, Guelph, Peterborough and Hamilton-Niagara, Ontario, and improved service between North Bay and Sudbury.
"We should build VIA up, not tear it down," said Dale Wilson, past president of Transport 2000 Ontario, in a prepared statement.
