Rail News: Passenger Rail
Tri-Rail reached pre-pandemic ridership in 2024

Tri-Rail, operated by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), served 4.4 million riders in 2024, marking the first time since 2019 that ridership has exceeded 4 million in a year.
The commuter railroad consistently surpassed 4 million annual rides between 2012 and 2019, and in March 2024 marked its full ridership recovery from the pandemic with an average of 15,000 weekday rides and 8,000 weekend rides that month, SFRTA officials said in a press release.
“We aspire to continue to break our own records, and more importantly, to establish a service that enhances the rider experience and strengthens the region’s mobility,” said SFRTA Chair Marci Woodward.
Tri-Rail was expanded to downtown Miami in January 2024, and there were several schedule additions last summer. The system had a 93.6% on-time performance rate in December 2024, the first time in over a year the rate exceeded 90%. Tri-Rail also provided special train service for notable events throughout 2024.
