The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) yesterday announced the return of Tri-Rail’s full schedule starting Oct. 25.
The train system’s schedule was first reduced in spring 2020 in response to the pandemic's impact on ridership, SFRTA officials said in a press release.
As Tri-Rail ridership dropped to 20% in March 2020, the train schedule was drastically reduced to 18 weekday and 12 weekend trains for several months. The schedule was incrementally increased another four times and ended just short of its full schedule in October 2020. The system will return to its full schedule with ridership at a steady 60% and growing, authority officials said.
Tri-Rail service was reported to have the second highest ridership recovery among commuter railroads in the United States, according to the American Public Transportation Association’s Public Transportation Ridership Report for First Quarter 2021.
