Yesterday, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transit District of Oregon (TriMet) broke ground on a new MAX light-rail station, which has been in development since 1997.
The facility, which will be located along the Blue Line, will become TriMet’s 85th MAX station. TriMet and Portland’s Metro Council had committed to building the $3 million station in the Gresham Civic Neighborhood once there was enough real estate development and density to support it, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.
Funding for the project will be provided by the Federal Transit Administration and the Metro Council, a regional government body that serves three counties and 25 cities in the Portland area. In addition, the city of Gresham will contribute $600,000 for a future plaza at the station that also will serve as a pedestrian connection between the station and future development.
The station is slated to open in fall.
