In March, TriMet recorded more than 8.6 million trips on MAX light-rail and WES commuter-rail services, and buses. Weekday and weekly trips, and total monthly ridership have increased for each of the past 12 months, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.

Weekend trips rose 5.5 percent compared with March 2011, the biggest percentage increase in two years, they said. MAX Green Line weekend trips climbed 10.8 percent to 26,700 trips.

On the MAX light-rail system, weekly trips rose 2.5 percent to 789,400; weekend trips climbed 4.8 percent to 162,400; and rush-hour trips increased 3.3 percent to 37,600.
