In May, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) posted its highest overall ridership numbers since summer 2008.
The agency registered nearly 9.2 million rail and bus trips last month, marking the third time in the agency’s history that it has provided more than 9 million rides in a month.
WES, TriMet’s commuter-rail system, also posted record ridership. Both weekday trips and weekly trips increased 6.7 percent compared with May 2011.
The MAX light-rail system posted a slight gain in weekly trips at 1.5 percent. Weekend trips rose 7.7 percent and rush-hour trips increased 1.3 percent, but weekday trips slipped 0.1 percent.
