The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) later this month will launch a $22 million project to upgrade or replace 19 elevators throughout its system.
The multiyear project includes outdoor elevators along the MAX Blue, Green and Red light-rail lines in northeast Portland.
The project will begin May 17 with the refurbishment of the elevator at the NE 60th Avenue MAX Station. That elevator has been in use since the MAX Blue Line began service in 1986.
Elevators at the NE 82nd Avenue Station and the Hollywood/NE 42nd Avenue Transit Center are next in line for renovations this year, TriMet officials said in a press release.
To minimize the impact on riders, only one elevator will be renovated at a time.
