On Thursday, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) announced it received a $1.2 million grant from the Transportation Security Administration to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at 10 MAX rail stations, as well as complete other security improvements at other TriMet facilities.

TriMet has 85 MAX stations; all but 10 have CCTV security cameras installed on the platforms. In 2010, there were 471 crimes reported on MAX, mostly minor or property crimes, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.

"TriMet’s top priority is to operate a safe and secure transit system," TriMet General Manger Neil McFarlane said.

Camera installation is expected to be completed by summer 2012.
