The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) posted a record ridership of 8.7 million in April, a 2.2 percent increase vs. April 2010.

Weekly ridership exceeded 2 million for the first time since October 2008, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.

Ridership rose on all the MAX light-rail lines, as well as on WES commuter-rail service. However, bus ridership decreased.

MAX weekday ridership increased 10.5 percent, rush-hour ridership rose 10 percent, weekly ridership jumped 9.6 percent and weekend ridership climbed 6.3 percent. MAX Green Line weekday ridership soared 18.4 percent and weekend ridership rose 0.4 percent.

WES ridership in both the weekday/rush-hour and weekly categories increased 27.8 percent.
