The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) has revealed the name for its Washington County commuter-rail line: WES, which stands for Westside Express Service.
The name was chosen through a “Name That Train” contest the agency launched in October. TriMet received more than 1,700 entries that were judged by Washington County officials and community organizations. Eighteen people submitted the winning name.
Scheduled to open on Sept. 12, 2008, the 14.7-mile line will run along existing freight tracks and provide service to Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville. It will connect with TriMet’s Blue and Red MAX light-rail lines, and several bus routes. Construction is about 75 percent complete; TriMet has rebuilt more than 14 miles of track, reconstructed 14 crossings, and built five new and rehabilitated two bridges.
