In July, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon’s (TriMet) Westside Express Service (WES) commuter-rail route reached a new record high at 1,700 trips daily.
Since WES service began in February 2009, ridership has grown every month, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement. Weekday/rush-hour trips increased 9.3 percent in July compared with the same month a year ago, while weekly trips rose 9.3 percent to 8,850.
Ridership on TriMet’s MAX and MAX Green Line light-rail routes slipped during the month, however. On MAX, weekly trips fell 2.2 percent to 860,200; weekday trips decreased 1.7 percent to 135,500; weekend trips declined 3.9 percent to 182,700; and rush-hour trips dropped 1 percent to 38,900 versus July 2011.
MAX Green Line weekday trips declined 2.1 percent to 23,400 and weekend trips were down 2.2 percent.
All services combined, more than 8.6 million trips were taken on trains and buses in July, TriMet officials said.
