Pompano Beach, Fla.’s Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority (Tri-Rail) recorded impressive October ridership and on-time performance numbers, carrying 226,973 passengers, up from 181,774 in October 1999 — its highest monthly ridership total since March 1995.

Tri-Rail’s average weekday ridership increased nearly 13 percent over the same period last year to 8,934. Weekend ridership rose 11 percent, averaging 3,381 passenger trips. On Oct. 23, Tri-Rail carried 9,632 passengers — the highest single ridership day since Dec. 19, 1997.

Tri-Rail’s growth can be attributed to an enhanced marketing campaign and improved customer satisfaction, said Executive Director Joseph Giulietti in a prepared statement.

That satisfaction was aided by a strong on-time performance through October, which climbed to 95 percent for end-to-end operation and 85 percent for station-to station. Year-to-date, Tri-Rail has maintained at least 80 percent on-time performance, primarily due to progress on Tri-Rail’s double-tracking project.
