Trinity Railway Express (TRE) on Dec. 30 will mark 25 years of service to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

A joint venture between Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Trinity Metro, TRE debuted in 1996 on a 10-mile commuter-rail line between what is now EBJ Union Station and South Irving Station. The service carried more than 4,000 people on its first day of operation. The rail line expanded to downtown Fort Worth in 2001.

To mark the anniversary, TRE officials will offer riders the opportunity to win 25 days of free fares by posting their fondest TRE memories on the agency's website. Winners will receive 25 regional day passes. Entries will be accepted through Jan. 2, 2022.
