Polly Trottenberg yesterday was sworn in as deputy U.S. transportation secretary following her confirmation by the U.S. Senate. She is second-in-command to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

"We could not be more delighted to welcome Polly Trottenberg back home to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)," said Buttigieg in a press release. "Her passion and skill arrives at a critical moment as we work to transform our infrastructure, create millions of good jobs, advance safety and equity, and combat climate change.”

Trottenberg has federal, state and city experience in transportation. For seven years, she served as New York City's transportation commissioner until she resigned in December 2020 and joined the Biden transition team.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Foye also acknowledged Trottenberg's new role.

"I want to congratulate former New York City Transportation Commissioner and former MTA board member Polly Trottenberg on her confirmation to serve as deputy transportation secretary at USDOT," he said in a statement. “As a leading expert on transportation policy, [she] is uniquely qualified for this critical role."
