Twin Cities' Metropolitan Council chooses 'METRO' as name for LRT/BRT system

The Metropolitan Council has approved the final piece of the identity and branding plan for the region’s developing light-rail transit (LRT) and bus-rapid transit (BRT) system.
The council decided to name the system “METRO.” The system includes the LRT and BRT transit ways under development, each of which will be identified by a color name. The council also adopted branding elements that include a traditional “circle-T” logo, and designs for vehicle graphics and station sights.
“The METRO system identifies the developing LRT/BRT services as unique,” said Arlene McCarthy, the council’s director of Metropolitan Transportation Services, in a prepared statement. “METRO riders can expect fast, frequent and convenient service, whether they ride the Blue Line to Target Field, the Red Line to Mall of America or the Green Line to the State Capitol.”
