A United Kingdom-based lessor recently ordered 45 Turbostar diesel-multiple-unit cars (DMU) from Bombardier Transportation.
Placed by Porterbrook Leasing Co. Ltd., the $78.7 million order includes an option for an additional 63 cars, which would put the total contract value at $110.5 million. The air-conditioned DMUs will feature passenger information systems designed to keep onboard passengers informed of any train service alterations, as well as other journey information.
"This contract will allow us to offer the short lead times the Train Operating companies have been looking for with DMU stock," said Paul Francis, managing director of Porterbrook Leasing, part of Abbey National Treasury Services plc, in a prepared statement.
Bombardier plans to manufacture the Turbostar units at its, Derby, U.K., production facility.
