Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded a $7.9 million grant to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to build a new intermodal station in Tukwila, Wash.
The station, which will replace an existing temporary structure, will be designed to enhance intermodal and parking facilities, USDOT officials said in a prepared statement. In addition, the station will improve access to Amtrak Cascades and Sound Transit services.
“Station improvements like these will help to strengthen the rail system and economy in the Northwest,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “These projects will create good jobs and continue to support the growth of passenger rail in the region.”
