USDOT to announce TIGER grant winners in January

The U.S. Transportation of Transportation (USDOT) plans to announce the recipients of Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants a tad earlier than expected. On Friday, the agency announced it will accelerate grant awards for the $1.5 billion program and name winners in January 2010 — one month ahead of the statutory deadline.

The TIGER program will award stimulus funds on a competitive basis to projects deemed to have a significant impact on the nation, a region or metropolitan area, and those projected to create jobs and benefit economically distressed areas.

The USDOT is accepting TIGER grant applications until Sept. 15. A review team will expedite the grant application process to speed up awards.
