Rail News: Passenger Rail

UTA riders put onboard WiFi service to use

The additional cost to implement wireless fidelity (WiFi) service along the FrontRunner commuter-rail line is paying off for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). The agency recently announced that more than 1,000 passengers use the wireless Internet service each day.

The agency implemented the service to lure more people away from their cars and onto the trains when the line opened last spring. Before completing construction on the 44-mile line, UTA installed conduit and fiber-optic cables under tracks.
