Utah Transit Authority (UTA) officials yesterday unveiled the name and look of the first streetcar that will operate in the state in more than 50 years. The S Line was named in honor of the streetcar's founding cities of Salt Lake and South Salt Lake, as well as the Sugar House neighborhood it will serve starting Dec. 8, officials announced on the UTA's website. The S Line cars will feature a white and silver design that reflect the area's industrial heritage, they said. The cars are the same Siemens S70 cars that operate on TRAX lines, but will run as single cars and operate at speeds of 20 mph or less. The streetcar will stop at seven locations and operate from the Sugar House shopping district to Central Pointe Station, where riders can connect with TRAX.
