Union Switch & Signal Inc. (US&S) recently began the final phase of an Advanced Speed Enforcement System (ASES) on New Jersey Transit — the first North American passenger railroad to merge Continuous Cab Signaling and Positive Train Stop in one system, according to a prepared statement.


US&S plans to install ASES wayside technology system-wide, involving 434 track miles. The supplier also will equip 63 passenger cars and 71 locomotives with ASES cab equipment.


"This project sets the standard for fail-safe speed enforcement on passenger railroads in North America, and establishes NJ Transit as the model for other passenger railroads to follow," said US&S President and Chief Executive Officer Ken Burk.
