• AECOM Technology Corp. was awarded a 19.3-million extension contract — the first of three possible one-year option periods — from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) to complete the second phase of its light-rail expansion program. The project will complete the 26.5-mile Green Line and expand 20 miles of the Orange and Blue lines. Under the extension, AECOM will provide a variety of project control, system integration and staff support services. AECOM’s work on the current light-rail contract began in 2002 and has a value of $58.1 million to date.

• L.B. Foster Co. was awarded a $2.1 million contract to supply direct fixation fasteners and bonded insulated joints for the first phase of the new Dallas Area Rapid Transit Orange Line from the city center of Dallas to Irving, Texas. L.B. Foster direct fixation fasteners, which are manufactured by the company’s Transit Products unit, provide noise and vibration dampening, electrical isolation and ease of installation, according to the company. Phase I construction began in May and is scheduled to be completed by April 2010.

• Siemens AG/Bombardier received an order for 20 subway trams from Wiener Linien, Vienna, Austria’s public transport operator. Siemens is responsible for the train engineering, car body construction, interior furnishings and part of the electrical equipment; Bombardier will supply the air-conditioning units. The order, which is based on a 1998 master agreement, is worth $278.5 million; Siemens’ share is worth $223.1 million, Bombardier’s is worth $55.4 million.  

• Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) will deliver the systems package for Miami-Dade Transit’s Miami Intermodal Center-Earlington Heights Connector Project. The 2.4-mile extension of the Metrorail system will provide a commuter link between the existing system and Miami International Airport. The prime contractor, Odebrecht-Tower-Community Asphalt, awarded the systems package subcontract to MEC. The scope of work includes the train control systems, as well as power and communications systems.

• Gary Touryan joined engineering firm Stantec as executive director of the firm’s transit and rail systems division. Touryan has more than 35 years of experience in designing and managing U.S. rail and transit projects in such cities as Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta and the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. Touryan comes to Stantec from Halcrow, where he served as a senior vice president.
