• RailWorks Corp. recently deployed Amberg Technologies' GRP Track Measurement System for use — in conjunction with Amberg Rail software suite — on various rail transit projects for New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority. RailWorks purchased the system from Kara Co., Amberg's North American distribution partner.

• Crown Products & Services L.L.C. recently acquired L-3 Coleman Aerospace's coal compaction technology and patent rights. The acquisition "clears the way" for full-scale testing of a coal compaction prototype, according to a prepared statement. To be conducted this fall at a Powder River Basin site, the test involves running about 100 unit trains through the coal compaction device, which is designed to reduce coal dust emissions.

• Interfleet Technology named Mike McLoughlin associate consultant. McLoughlin, who has more than 50 years of rail-related experience, specializes in derailment investigation and related rail safety subjects involving train operations, rolling stock, infrastructure design and maintenance. He most recently was director of rail accident investigations for TQ Catalis Ltd.
