• Ansaldo STS has received a $196.5 million contract to design and build Line 6 of the Naples underground. The company will build the connecting tunnel between Mostra station and the former military arsenal area on Via Campegna, as well as the depot/workshop to house and maintain a fleet of trains serving the four-mile Mostra-Municipio section of the line.

• Bombardier Transportation will partner with Carnegie Mellon University to open a new $2.2 million multidisciplinary research center this fall to explore joint research in a variety of technology areas. The new Pennsylvania Smart Infrastructure Incubator will receive an economic development grant from the state of Pennsylvania through the Redevelopment Assistant Capital Program. Bombardier also announced it will deliver another 21 double-deck coaches to Deutsche Bahn AG. The $42 million order is based on a 2003 framework agreement for the delivery of 298 double-deck coaches and an option for an additional 300.

• Thales USA’s transport business has received a $343 million contract from MTA New York City Transit to perform signaling upgrades and complete related refurbishment work on the subway system’s Flushing Line. Thales’ communications-based train control technology will be integrated into the Flushing Line, with all work to be completed by 2014.

• L.B. Foster Co. announced the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) informally has raised antitrust concerns to L.B. Foster’s proposed acquisition of Portec Rail Products Inc. Although the DOJ has not made a final determination, it may seek, as a condition of the proposed acquisition, various restructuring alternatives, including the sale of certain assets associated with the merged company's rail joint business. In addition, a Pennsylvania court has dissolved a preliminary injunction against a tender offer and the merger.

• Aconex has been chosen by the Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) to provide its online collaboration system for RTD’s FasTracks transit expansion program. Aconex will facilitate the information and records management needs for the program's design, construction, testing and start up.
