• Ansaldo STS received a $42.9 million contract from the Genoa, Italy, local authority to supply the first batch of seven new-generation trains to Genoa Metro. To be produced by Ansaldo Breda, the trains will feature four carriage units and five bogies, three of which will be motorized. The trains will be able to travel as a single unit or with two coupled traction units, providing capacity for about 600 passengers, according to a prepared statement.
• Production resumed last month at Bombardier Transportation's Bautzen site, where the company manufactures trams and light-rail vehicles. In August, the German plant was "affected by flooding in the Saxony area," according to a prepared statement. About 99 percent of the facility has been "cleaned and the infrastructure has been restored." The cost of the flood damage? About $20 million, said Bombardier Transportation officials, who expect the facility to be at "full production readiness" by year's end.
• Parkeon received a contract to supply a suite of ticket vending machines (TVMs) to U.K. rail operator Northern Rail Ltd. The contract — "with potentially a seven-figure value," according to a prepared statement — covers the installation of TVMs in an area stretching across England's east and west coasts. Parkeon will deliver the first of the Astreo and Galexio TVMs by year's end.
