• Bombardier Transportation recently was awarded a $53 million order to deliver the BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 200 mainline signaling system for the Albacete-to-La Encina section of Spain’s 56-mile Madrid-to-Valencia-Alicante line. The signaling system will feature Bombardier’s BOMBARDIER EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking, EBI Screen local control center and EBI track train detection systems. Bombardier also will modify existing systems, equipment and structures. The five-phase project will be completed during the next 12 months, according to a prepared statement.

• GE Transportation and Progress Rail Services Corp. announced earlier this week that Progress Rail had purchased GE’s Inspection Products business. Terms weren’t disclosed. Inspection Products, which has been part of GE’s Intelligent Control Systems division, designs, manufactures and sells hot-wheel and hot-box detectors, data acquisition systems, draggers and other related inspection products for freight- and passenger-rail systems.

• RMI reached a five-year agreement with Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) for the continued use of RMI’s RailConnect suite of services by GWI’s North American operations. GWI, which uses such RailConnect modules as Business Intelligence, Mobile Crew (mCrew) reporting and ShipperConnect, has been using RMI’s services for more than 20 years.

• Duos Technologies Inc. recently was awarded a $795,000 contract from a Class I to develop an “efficient, automated method” to conduct inspections of inbound trains and rail cars crossing the Mexican-U.S. border, according to a prepared statement. The system will expand upon Duos’ Train Rider Detection System (trids™), which uses artificial intelligence to automatically inspect passing trains to detect unauthorized riders or illegal cargo.

• Michael Baker Jr. Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corp., appointed James Adams vice president and national technical services manager for its rail and transit services businesses. A 25-year industry veteran, Adams most recently was director for rail and transit services for a “multi-national engineering company,” according to a prepared statement. He has extensive program/project management experience, managing architects and engineers in the areas of civil, structural, architectural, traction power, overhead contact systems, signaling/train control, and communications.
