• A Bombardier Transportation/Alstom Transport consortium recently signed a $1.2 billion contract to supply 468 metro cars to the Societe de Transport de Montreal (STM). The 52 nine-car trainsets will replace STM's MR-63 fleet, which has been in service since 1966, according to a prepared statement. The first prototype train is scheduled to be delivered in June 2013; trainsets will be delivered from February 2014 through September 2018. Bombardier's contract share is worth $725 million; Alstom's, $482 million.

• Johnson Matthey appointed Jose Ramirez senior project engineer for the company's stationary emissions control group. He'll be responsible for the development, design, project execution and technical support of emissions control components and systems for high-horsepower engines (including those of the locomotive variety) and industrial plants. Ramirez previously was a performance engineer for Standard Aero Inc.
