Updates from Kawasaki, L.B. Foster, Wartsila, Siemens and International Fuel Technology

• Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. has been contracted by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to manufacture 428 new generation Metrorail cars. Under the $886 million contract, delivery would begin in 2013. All 428 cars would enter service by 2016.

• L.B. Foster announced it is extending its previously announced cash tender offer for all outstanding shares of common stock of Portec Rail Products Inc. until midnight, EDT, on July 30. The offer previously was set to expire at midnight on June 1.

• Wartsila has signed an agreement with Russian company Transmashholding to manufacture modern, multi-purpose diesel engines in Russia. The engines will be used in shunter locomotives and for various marine and power applications. Production on the $37.1 million joint venture is expected to begin in 2012.

• Russian Railways, Siemens AG and Aeroexpress have signed a three-way agreement on the production, supply and servicing of Russian trains in Sochi. Under the pact, the three companies will jointly produce Desiro RUS electric trains. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with the majority of the project to be completed by 2017.

• International Fuel Technology Inc. announced that more than four years of extensive rail engine testing and field demonstration in the United Kingdom has confirmed that the use of its proprietary fuel additive DiesoLiFT 10 provided a "significant improvement in fuel economy and power," according to a prepared statement.
