• Michael Baker Jr. Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corp., has appointed Bradley Heigel assistant vice president and office principal of the Harrisburg, Pa., office. Previously, Heigel served the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as a total reconstruction program manager and a liaison and traffic engineer.

• Thales has been contracted by the Metro Co. of Chongqing, China, to provide an integrated supervision and control system to centralize line supervision on line 1.

• HDR has been contracted by the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority to provide the Regional Transportation Corridor Evaluation Study. Covering the 14-mile area from the University of South Florida to Wesley Chapel, the study will help develop a regional transit solution. The study is expected to be completed in two years.

• Alstom has opened a new train maintenance facility in Edge Hill, Liverpool, England. As the result of a $21.5 million investment from Network Rail1, the facility can receive up to eight high-speed tilting Pendolino Trains for maintenance each night vs. the five it formerly handled.

• Transportation Certification Services (TCS) has completed training Cargill employees at Cargill’s Channelview, Texas, facility. TCS trained employees in basic rail safety and operations to handle grain trains delivered to the facility by the Port Terminal Railroad Association.

• The Greenbrier Cos. announced it closed the sale of an additional 500,000 shares of common stock as part of a 30-day over-allotment option exercised by the underwriters. The sale is in connection with the company’s previously announced public offering of 4 million shares of its common stock, which closed on May 12.

• Cubic Transportation Systems has received a $10 million contract to manage and operate SmarTrip Regional Customer Service Center for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). SmarTrip is WMATA’s card-based fare collection system, which was designed and integrated by Cubic more than 10 years ago. The three-year contract includes a $6.8 million option to extend the pact an additional two years.
