• Siemens has been contracted by the Austrian Federal Railways to supply up to 200 Desiro ML electric regional passenger trains over the next five years. If the railway orders all the services stipulated in the contract, it could be worth about $1.3 billion. Siemens also has been contracted to handle the electrification of 7.3 miles of track for a new elevated line that will enter service in Lima, Peru, in 2011.

• Alstom Transport's Signalling Solutions Ltd., a joint venture of Alstom and Balfour Beatty Rail, has received a $61.5 million contract to modernize the signaling system along 65.2 miles of track in the East Kent region of the United Kingdom.

• Railinc has upgraded the RailSight CLM engine, which provides real-time track and trace data for freight rail. RailSight now enables rail equipment owners, shippers, third-party logistics managers and transportation management software providers to manage and view rail fleets and account profiles through a Web-based tool, according to Railinc.

• Bombardier Transportation has received a $54 million contract from Poland's Koleje Mazowieckie-KM for 11 TRAXX electric locomotives to be delivered in summer 2011. The new two-cab TRAXX P160 DC locomotives, which can operate at speeds up to 99 mph, will provide power for Koleje Mazowieckie’s double-deck cars.

• Road & Rail Services Inc. is implementing Centron’s diesel fuel additive at all of their rail service operations and intermodal transloading facilities. The diesel fuel additive increases fuel economy performance, lowers exhaust emissions, reduces maintenance costs and prolongs the operating life of diesel-powered equipment, Road & Rail Services officials said in a prepared statement.

• System Logistics Corp., previously known as Diamond Phoenix, has named Thomas Berger vice president of supply chain sales. Berger will oversee the newly established supply chain solutions group. Berger previously was a senior staff member with both Wei and Daifuku.
