• A Bombardier Transportation-Alstom Transport consortium received a "notice to proceed" from Société de transport de Montréal to supply of 468 metro cars (52 nine-car trainsets). Bombardier's share of the $1.18 billion contract is $715 million; Alstom's, $468 million. The first prototype is scheduled to be delivered in June 2013, followed by base order deliveries between February 2014 and September 2018.

• Bombardier Transportation received a $39 million order from Germany's Hallesche Verkehrs AG for 12 low-floor FLEXITY Classic trams. The order includes an option for four additional vehicles. The trams are scheduled to be delivered between July 2012 and January 2013.

• PBS&J appointed Barry Schulz as the planning/engineering firm's transportation group president. Schulz has held numerous transportation roles since joining PBS&J in 1998, including Colorado division manager, West Region service manager and, most recently, national sales and strategy director. He's also served as the firm's national sales director. 

• RailComm recently completed "a major expansion" of its yard automation system at Transnet Freight Rail's Ermelo Yard in South Africa, according to a prepared statement. The system comprises the DOC® (Domain Operations Controller) server-based central control system and nine new associated outdoor-rated control panels.
