Rail News: Passenger Rail
Last week, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced it awarded three grants totaling $34.8 million to the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to help fund Salt Lake City-area passenger-rail projects.
FTA is reimbursing the authority $30.2 million for construction expenses related to the Medical Center light-rail line, which opened in September 2003.
The two remaining grants totaling $3.6 million will help fund preliminary engineering and environmental analyses for UTA’s proposed Weber County-to-Salt Lake City commuter-rail line.
