Rail News: Passenger Rail
After three years of planning and studying, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has obtained Federal Transit Administration approval for its Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Weber County-to-Salt Lake City commuter-rail project.
Now, the authority can begin acquiring property for the nine-station, 44-mile line, which could include future extensions to Provo, Brigham City and Payson.
In November 2000, voters in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties approved a quarter-cent sales tax increase to fund additional transit services, including commuter rail.
