VIA Rail Canada, Communauto team up to offer train/auto service

Yesterday, VIA Rail Canada Ltd. and Communauto announced a new program designed to enable passengers to register with Communauto to reserve a vehicle and train ticket in a single online transaction.
After riding the train, passengers can take possession of their rental vehicle at a station or at any other Communauto point of service and return it to the same location at the end of their stay, VIA Rail Canada officials said in a prepared statement.
“The intermodal offering we are introducing combines the best of both worlds ... the safety and comfort of train travel with the flexibility of the car for short trips,” said Communauto Chief Executive Officer Benoît Robert.
