Rail News: Passenger Rail
VIA Rail Canada issues RFQ for new trainsets

VIA Rail Canada yesterday released requests for qualification (RFQ) for a supplier of locomotives and rail cars that will replace the railroad's long-distance, regional and remote fleet.
The RFQ marks the first phase of the fleet replacement project, which calls for the railroad to have all new trains in a decade, VIA Rail officials said in a press release.
"This milestone, made possible by the government of Canada’s commitment, ensures we can maintain coast-to-coast services, continue to connect communities and inspire more Canadians to choose passenger rail," said VIA Rail President and CEO Mario Peloquin. "These new trains are central to our vision of offering a modern, accessible and sustainable travel experience for all regions of Canada.”
The fleet replacement project is part of VIAction 2030, the railroad's strategic plan.
