VIA Rail earns 'AirRail Concept of Year' award for intermodal strategy

VIA Rail Canada Inc. recently received the AirRail Concept of the Year award at the Global AirRail Awards ceremony in Frankfurt, Germany.

The ceremony is one of the most prestigious events dedicated to the international air-rail market, recognizing best practices in intermodal travel around the world, VIA Rail officials said in a press release.

"This award recognizes VIA Rail's leadership in developing intermodal partnerships," said Steve Del Bosco, chief marketing and sales officer, in a press release. "We are working to develop innovative solutions that will facilitate travel for Canadians while providing greater choice and optimizing use of the transportation system."

Presented by the Global AirRail Alliance, the AirRail Concept of the Year award recognizes a vision, design, strategic plan or idea deemed to significantly improve passengers' travel experience by air or rail.

The alliance also recognized a Canadian intermodal project: the Union Pearson Express, a division of Metrolinx in Toronto, which received the Project of the Year award for the air-rail link that will connect Union Station in downtown Toronto to Pearson International Airport.
