VIA Rail Canada June 7 officially opened the recently renovated Kingston (Ontario) Train Station.
The $2 million rehab included expansions and upgrades to the inside waiting room and passenger waiting area on the south boarding platform; installation of escalators at both ends of the passenger tunnel; construction of a new lounge for VIA 1 passengers; and installation of an additional ticket counter.
"Hundreds of thousands of travelers pass through this train station each year, and the number is growing," said Canadian Transport Minister David Collenette in a prepared statement. "There is a renaissance in passenger rail well under way … across this country, and Kingston is part of that renaissance."
