advertisement
Last week, VIA Rail Canada Ltd. announced it will launch a $19.5 million program aimed at reconfiguring 12 stainless-steel cars used on the Canadian transcontinental train. The work will covered by government funds.
VIA Rail plans to rebuild eight Chateau sleeping cars and four Park sleeper-dome-lounge cars. The railroad awarded a contract to Avalon Rail Inc., which specializes in remanufacturing passenger cars. The company will deliver the cars in 2011.
